I enjoy a good What, Why, How exercise. It helps bring clarity, so let’s start there.
Most companies have a mission and/or vision statement. Their… We Believe statement(s). Percepta is no exception. However, many times writing down and posting the statements on a wall or a mug is where the effort recedes, and it becomes a culture of “do as I say and not as I do.” Saying words creates interest and begins the foundation for trust and buy-in…But that’s not enough.
To be true leaders we need to lead by example.
Demonstrate the truths, behaviors, and beliefs that we want to see in others.
The Percepta Difference – We Believe our mission and vision statements and we take action to demonstrate our beliefs to all our stakeholders – internal employees as well as external clients. We know that words matter. What we say, how we say it, the tone we use, and the intent are all important. But to really make the difference, we must put action to those words. We must demonstrate our beliefs and be an example for our teams, co-workers, internal and external clients. We verbalize our values and mission to all new employees and then recognize them when we see them demonstrating as well.
But how do leaders demonstrate as well as verbalize?
Leaders encourage. Leaders support. Leaders mentor…
Leaders truly LEAD others.
We begin by separating two very close things managing and leading. While both have a purpose, they both have separate agendas and outcomes. Managing is very much metric-driven…which of course is important. Managers have people that work for them... this is more of a day-to-day task. Leaders, however, inspire, support, motivate, and encourage. Leaders have people that follow. Leadership is a lifelong journey for anyone.
